Apprentices Visit RBS

by Sue Gil

On Thursday 18th January, Ruth Badger & Alexa Tilley two stars of the popular TV show The Apprentice visited Regents Business School to give a presentation as part of the RBS Business Communications Skills course.

Ruth & Alexas visit took place just a week after the BBCs show came to its dramatic conclusion. On theRuth Badger show, over ten weeks of business orientated tasks, 14 candidates were whittled down to two finalists. Each week Sir Alan Sugar, founder and CEO of the Amstrad Corporation, fired a candidate based on their performance. Ruth Badger made the final, narrowly missing becoming The Apprentice, but never the less proving she was a determined and experienced business woman.

Their presentation looked at the importance of researching company backgrounds and markets. The pair summed up their approach to business as; 1. Set your self achievable goals, 2. Be determined and 3. Believe in yourself and know your strengths.

Alexa TilleyThey stressed the importance of a good CV in order to stand out from the crowd. The ability to work well in a team and be able to network were also skills they found helped in the workplace. Ruth went on to say she didn't tolerate poor punctuality, stating that someone arriving even two minutes late for a job interview wouldn't be the kind of employee she was looking for! Some good advice there for all our students.

"After doing my first degree in law I found myself at a cross roads, uncertain which way to go and not knowing what to do. Doing my MA at RBS London has now opened up many options.  We undertook a really good Skills programme which has helped me understand  more about myself and giver me skills which I have used in my job interviews."
