Professor Jonathan Liu
Ms Jensen said “In the fall 2007 I choose
the subject Managing New Ventures. I didn't really know what I was
letting myself into but it turned out to be a great course where we
in groups worked on the development of our new business idea. When
Dr. Richard Gregson and Professor Jonathan Liu informed me about
the award, it was a big surprise. I am not sure how I looked when
they told me, but it was a combination of astonishment, excitement
and disbelief. Now after the initial shock has settled I feel very
honoured to be the first to receive the award. I can only recommend
others to take the module, if not for the learning experience then
for the opportunity to win an award."
Celebrating Student Achievement & Development
Professor Liu and Dr Gregson indicates that the award celebrates
the achievements that students have to make in developing
themselves and the hard work that they put into making the module a
success. The module helps students explore the challenges and
processes involved in the creation of a new venture and managing
its future growth.
Students are required to identify and apply the analytical
skills and strategic techniques needed to develop a new venture,
thereby producing an understanding of the processes, procedures and
managerial functions which are involved in its creation. The module
further considers the role of entrepreneurial management in new
ventures and in many respects the award is a hallmark of the
modules underlying principles of creative new ventures.
Houghton Mifflin
Andrew Neilson, Sales and Marketing Director
of Houghton Mifflin who sponsored the award explained that Houghton
Mifflin is very proud to be associated and collaborated with
Regent's College to offer the Best Student Award in Managing New
Ventures. The recognition of student achievements is an
important integral to the philosophy of developing students that
are world class, which Houghton Mifflin endeavours to achieve
in offering publications of the highest standing. The award
is well placed as it supports the module by recognising the
importance of developing and managing new ventures
in an age of rapid change and uncertainty.
