New Venture Management Student Award
Recognizing opportunities and realising them
is at the heart of the Managing New Ventures module. The
module is designed to allow students to harness their aspirations
and translate them into sustainable ventures that benefit
individuals and society as a whole.
True to these beliefs, Regent’s College’s
International Visiting Professor, Professor Jonathan Liu and
Academic Director, Dr Richard Gregson created an award for the best
student in Managing New Ventures with publishers Houghton Mifflin,
who were subsequently taken over by Cengage.
Jonathan and Richard commented that the award
was now in its second year, and that they were particularly pleased
that Cengage decided to continue the award as it recognizes the
quality of work by students at Regent’s College. This
is by far the best accolade for the module as a change of sponsors
demonstrates that the quality of student’s work continues to be of
the highest standard.
New Sponsors for the Award
“Cengage having taken over Houghton Mifflin
continues the relationship with Regent's College as it meets
Cengage’s goals of being a global provider of learning materials
and facilitators of knowledge transfer”, says Tom Owen, Field Sales
Representative. The award is made annually and allows
students to be creative and think out of the box by applying what
they have learned both from the module as well as from other
modules they have covered at the College.

William Fawcus receives the
Managing New Ventures Award
William Fawcus won the award by gaining the
highest grades in the examination process and by working in a team
offering a bespoke merchandise product idea. The product was
developed and presented by team members of Abduljalil Abduljawad,
Marco Oliveira, Omar Shalaby and William. The presentation
was made to a panel of external industrial experts in a Dragon’s
Den format comprising of Robbie Books, Bob Springall and Harry
Huddart. The panel rated the product presentation as one with
the greatest potential to succeed should the students wish to
realize their offerings. Student’s found the experience of
presenting to industrial experts rewarding as it brings realism
into the classroom and according to some students the experience
was quite nerve wracking but challenging.
