| Course Aims | The module aims to:
Help students to acquire an in –depth understanding of the functions of City of London institutions and world stock markets.
Enable them to construct and manage an investment portfolio, using a range of models to relate security values to return and risk and to measure the value and performance of portfolios.

| Learning Outcomes | On completion of this module, students should be able to:
LO1 Evaluate functions of City institutions and world stock markets
LO2 Evaluate modern portfolio theory and apply it to the real world
LO3 Appreciate different asset classes and their benefits to investors
LO4 Understand the role of fund managers and assess their performance
LO5 Appreciate the varied objectives of portfolio management
LO6 Construct a portfolio using various selection strategies
LO7 Manage a simulated investment portfolio of their own
LO8 Critically evaluate alternative models of Portfolio Theory.

| Presentation | Students attend class sessions. There will be a combination of lectures and workshops in which cases and simulations will be a key focus. Homework will be issued for marking and appraisal. The simulated portfolio will be assessed over a six week period.
