Course AimsThe module aims to:

 Explore the challenges and processes involved in the creation of a new venture and managing its future growth.

Identify and apply the analytical skills and strategic techniques required to develop a new venture.

Facilitate an understanding of the processes, procedures and managerial functions which are involved a new venture’s creation.

Consider the role of the entrepreneurial manager in the new venture as a prelude to the third-year module “Entrepreneurship in the global environment”.

Learning OutcomesOn completion of this module, students should be able to:

LO1  Recognise the key business and managerial features of a successful new venture;

LO2  Understand the main steps involved in building the business planning process to support the new venture;

LO3  Demonstrate an insight into the type of systems, structure and culture required to support the business development of a new venture;

LO4  Demonstrate an ability to analyse the conditions required by new venture managers to encourage and sustain the business growth of a new venture;

LO5  Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the main characteristics and development needs of an effective entrepreneurial manager.

 

PresentationStudents are expected to attend four hours of class each week and to participate actively in classroom discussions, seminars presentations and group exercises and to complete assigned readings on a timely basis.

Teaching and learning activities will include a combination of lecture, discussion and workshop activities aimed at helping all students to improve their analytical, problem solving, communication and team building skills.
