Course AimsThe module aims to:

Develop knowledge and understanding at a basic level of core areas of business taxation.

Explain the operation of the UK taxation system

Provide students with a sound management perspective of the UK accounting framework of taxation.

Explain the obligations of corporation tax payers and their agents

Demonstrate the implications of non-compliance with Tax Regulations

 

Course ContentAccounting techniques, data collection, problem solving and analysis. Also knowledge acquisition skills, particularly associated with reading peer-reviewed journal articles.

 

 

Learning OutcomesOn completion of this module, students should be able to:

LO1  Discuss the operation and scope of the UK taxation system.

LO2  Analyse and compute the corporation tax liabilities of individual companies 

LO3  Analyse and compute the chargeable gains arising on companies

LO4  Explain the significance of “Tax Havens”

LO5  Discuss and assess global corporation taxation, identifying current issues in Europe, the Middle East and Russia

LO6  Analyse the effect of International Tax Treaties on corporate policy

 

 

PresentationStudents attend class sessions. There will be a range of activities including interactive lectures and discussions which relate to the scheme of work above.  Students are introduced to theories in the lectures and there will be a consistent approach to the class work which emphasises the relationship between theory and practice. A core text is recommended, and students are expected to assess recent developments in the module topics.
